The LSESU German Society hosted the 17th German Symposium, which took place at the London School of Economics and Political Science from the 28th of February to the 2nd of March 2018.
The Symposium’s guiding theme was “Reshaping Europe”, and it allowed us to discuss
the great relevance of European reform and cooperation. Particularly in an age of growing
Euro-skepticism, the political, financial, and cultural leaders of Europe must come together
and discuss the implications of this issue of truly continental magnitude. The idea standing
behind European cooperation was always one of benefit for all involved; thus, this sympsoium
dealt with questions ranging from the advantages of solidarity amongst or exit from the European
monetary union, to the perspectives of industry, technology, and even millenials, to the risks to
democracy that many nations in Europe are facing today.
